The Refinery is our first stop in Europe, inspired by the sophisticated bistros that can be found in Paris. This restaurant was built over the old opium refinery in Saigon; quite literally carrying on the name. Food here is homemade and has a French flair that makes it stand out amongst a lot of other places to eat – we recommend the ‘Frisée aux Lardons’ to start with, followed by a juicy beef filet mignon with red wine jus & potato galette rolls for an extra French feel.
Italian food is one of the best loved and most popular cuisines in the world. It is easy to cook at home and even easier to enjoy when dining out. The food is fresh and tasty and can be found in most countries. Tucked away in Thao Dien, this Italian eatery is a charming little sample of Italy, with the choice to combine your favourite pasta and sauce together as well as some classic dishes: eggplant parmigiana and tiramisu anyone?
Olá! A mighty buffet restaurant takes the form of Rio Churrascaria in District 1. Based on popular Brazilian dishes from the largest country in Latin America – Rio Churrascaria states that ‘the concept revolves around “churrasco”, a traditional grilling method with charcoal, using open flames and various cuts of meat.’ Sip Tip: the beef Fraldinha with mustard sauce is tasty and full of Brazilian flavour.
In this Bangkok market inspired restaurant, Thai Street Calmette offers fresh food packed full of spice and flavour, just like the food found in Thailand. This venue boasts a rooftop view, so you can admire the Saigon scenery as you tuck into some freshly prepared food; deep fried catfish salad, pineapple fried rice and Isaan-style grilled sausages are all on offer here, enjoy with a Thai beer like Chang or Singha on us!
We reach our third and final European venue now. Tomatito is a sexy tapas bar in District 1, taking inspiration from the glamourous traditional bars in Spain found in the 1980’s. Dining on tapas is always fun, sharing delicious food with friends or family. From Montadito de Gambas to Gazpacho Andaluz, Tomatito has something for everyone! If you’re after a Spanish experience, Tomatito have a weekly meeting of Spanish speakers here in Saigon! Happy hour prices apply from 9-11 plus you can enjoy tapas from 20,000 VND while you listen to Latin music. Excelente!
Sip Tip: Although we love all the cuisines on our list, make sure you don’t neglect the tasty street food that Vietnam has to offer.
